Whenever we look at landscape paintings they immediately transport us into a different world and give us the pleasant experience of feeling larger than life. Hung as large displays in art galleries and showrooms, now the power of landscape art can now be felt in your personal spaces too. Acrylic landscape paintings are those paintings that depict natural scenery; they began as artworks that portrayed wide landscapes, mountains, forests, sea coasts, valleys, meadows, and fields. Eventually, they developed into including man-made structures, buildings, monuments, and people. Landscape artwork can arise out of imaginary places or actual places; the portrayal of actual places is known as a topographical view. Some elements that are considered inherently significant in landscape wall art are a wide view, the sky, weather, and distant figures in the background. The genre of beautiful landscape paintings took some time to gain recognition, but once it did, it became one of the foremost and loved themes for artists to work with. The evidence of the first landscape wall art can be traced back to frescos from Minoan art around 1500 BCE. Even ancient Roman landscapes from the 1st century BCE still survive in the form of frescos. The tradition of landscape artwork developed in both the Western and East Asian parts of the world. While the majority of the landscape art in the West was related to history, in East Asia the paintings were imaginary landscapes. It was only during the Renaissance period that landscape paintings came into prominence as works were produced by painters like Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, Fra Bartolomeo, and others. Prior to the 15th century, landscape canvas painting wasn’t a genre in itself and considered low in hierarchy amongst art critics. The true essence of landscape paintings was exhibited through artists from the Danube School such as Joachim Patinir and Albrecht Altdorfer, who showcased the beauty of nature in their famous landscape paintings. In the 17th century, artists like Poussin and Claude tried to build a reputation for beautiful landscape paintings by emphasizing the power of nature and including biblical and mythological elements. It was in the 18th century that topographical views started being represented more than ever which eventually paved way for the representation of the Romantic movement in landscape artwork in the 19th and 20th centuries. The emergence of landscape canvas painting as a respectable genre developed in the 19th century as more and more landscape paintings with a hint of Romanticism became to be produced; they were full of passion, drama, and wild landscapes. Artists from all over the world started producing work that showcased the real power of landscape wall art. John Constable and J.M.W. Turner from England, Caspar David Friedrich from Germany, Jean-François Millet, Charles-François Daubigny, Théodore Rousseau from France, painters from the Hudson River school of United states; artists that were working in different parts of the world to create magic. The same trend was developing in the East Asian territories like China, Persia, Japan, and India. Eventually, with the 20th and 21st centuries, modern and abstract landscape paintings came into being which was a step away from a traditional approach to landscape art. Artists increasingly started experimenting with colors and their applications in order to create more depth and abstraction in their acrylic landscape paintings. The increased use of geometric shapes because of Cubism and portraying fantasy and the seminatural world through Surrealism led to the creation of abstract landscape paintings. The magic of landscape wall art developed into a larger notion of painting through other related scapes like skyscapes, cloudscapes, moonscapes, seascapes, riverscapes, cityscapes, hardscapes, aerial landscapes, and inscapes. Over the years, landscape canvas painting has turned into a world of their own and within this world, beautiful artworks have been created which went onto becoming world-famous paintings. Some of the famous landscape paintings are The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh, The Hay Wain by John Constable, Impression, Sunrise by Claude Monet (which also happens to be the painting that gave the Impressionist movement its name), Wanderer above the Sea of Fog by Caspar David Friedrich, Wheatfield with Crows by Vincent van Gogh and The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai.
